CARPT Computer Automated Radioactive Particle Tracking Facility. A unique facility for mapping the complete flow field of solids and liquid in gas-solid, liquid-solid, gas-liquid and gas-liquid-solid systems of different configurations with/without mixing elements. The technique provides mixing and turbulence parameters and the mean flow field.
CT Gamma Ray Computed Tomography for determination of density profiles in various cross-sections of multiphase contactors. The current set-up accommodates vessels from 1 inch to 18 inch in diameter.
CREL-XYTEL A modular experimental reactor unit with feed tanks, controllers, gas-chromatographs for studies of kinetics of various gas, liquid, gas-liquid, gas-solid, gas-liquid-solid systems.
TBR Trickle bed facility for study of kinetics and scale-up of gas-liquid reactions on solid catalysts.

MICRO-STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION
Transmission Electron Microscopy - The JEOL 2000 FX-TEM with an ultimate point resolution of 0.27 nm and the ability to converge the beam to 2 nm. It is equipped with a Tracor Northern Electron Energy Dispersive X-Ray Diffraction Detector and Computer, and a Gatan Electron Energy Loss Spectrometer. Additionally, it has a Fulum camera for live recording (useful for hot-stage experiments), a high resolution VCR, and image analysis software on a Macintosh Computer.
Scanning Electron Microscopy: Hitachi model S-4500 Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, a NORAN Instruments Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis system, a back scatter detector, and a mechanical straining stage.
Rigaku DMax A automated diffractometer with computer interface, a 1500 oC furnace for high temperature X-ray diffractometry, and a pole figure goniometer for texture measurements.
A Digital Instruments Nano Scope III Scanning Probe Microscope Station, Tip View STM Head, 125 fm AFM Scanner, optical Scanner, Tektronix color printer and assorted Nanoprobes.
Differential Thermal Analysis - A Perkin Elmer DSC-7 computer controlled calorimeter, capable of operation to 730 oC and a Perkin Elmer, DTA-1700, available for phase transformation studies at high temperatures.
Density Measurements - A computer controlled Cahn microbalance with a 0.1 microgram resolution and weigh-below capabilities will be used to determine the density, and hence packing-fraction, of the sintered and compacted sphere-ensembles.
Leitz Optical Metallograph, a hot stage microscope, and a Leco Microhardness Tester.
Hot press with a maximum operating temperature of 2200 °C and pressure of 350 MPa
