Minimum Grades and GPAs
The School of Engineering & Applied Science Registrar's Office enforces general requirements as well as specific requirements for each program. See the General Requirements page in addition to specific requirements available at each of the links on this page.
Minimum Grades and GPA Requirements specific to Environmental Engineering Science Graduate Students
All the following conditions listed should be met by graduate students in the Environmental Engineering Science Program
- The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.75. If a student’s GPA is less than this in any semester, the student receives a warning letter. If the student’s GPA is less than 2.75 for two consecutive semesters, the student is subject to dismissal. These are school requirements, and all students are subject to this rule. The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences also requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 for graduation.
- Students must obtain a C grade or higher in all courses that count towards degree requirements. If a student obtains a grade lower than "C" in any course that counts towards degree requirements, or is a required course in the Program, he/she has to retake the course and obtain a grade of C or better. A grade of D or lower will be considered a failing grade in the Environmental Engineering Science Graduate Program.
- Doctoral students must have a GPA of 3 or higher to graduate from the Program.
Conditions to appear for DSc Qualifying Examination
- A student in the Doctoral Program must have a GPA of 3 or higher to take the qualifying examination. All doctoral students must take the qualifying exam preferably by the end of the first year in the Program, and at the latest 18 months in the Doctoral Program. The Examination is typically given once a year in the month of May.
- A student in the Masters Program with a GPA of 3 or higher can petition to the Director of the Program by March 15 if he or she is interested in transferring to the Doctoral Program. If the petition is approved, the MS student can take the qualifying exam in May of the same year, and if he or she passes will then become a Doctoral student. If the student fails the qualifying examination, then he or she can continue work towards a MS degree. degree
